Trento among the most virtuous realities

Considering the indicators in the health area, Trentino, even in 2023, has the best value ever when it comes to life expectancy at birth: 84.6 years, compared to the Italian average of 83.1. For life expectancy at birth “in good health”, Trentino ranks among the top, second only to the Province of Bolzano. Trentino people are therefore the longest-lived in Italy in 2023, but they are surpassed in terms of years of life “in good health” by South Tyroleans: of the 84.1 years of expected life at birth in South Tyrol, around 80% are in good health. health, compared to 76% of people expected to live in good health in Trentino.

The data relating to the mental health index are also very good, where we are second only to the province of Bolzano

Excellent results have also been achieved by our territory in terms of avoidable mortality, which refers to deaths that could be avoided with the adoption of healthier lifestyles, with the reduction of environmental risk factors and with public health interventions (mortality preventable) or which could be reduced through timely and effective healthcare in terms of early diagnosis and appropriate healthcare treatments. Also in this case the value for our province (15.1 deaths per 10 thousand residents aged 0-74) is the best in Italy and well below the Italian average (19.2). Even on the cancer mortality front (20-64 years), the results are excellent, with 5.9 deaths per thousand inhabitants, compared to an Italian average of 7.6.

In terms of correct lifestyles and healthy eating, the Trentino people demonstrate that they are sensitive to the benefits that these bring to health. Overweight/obese adults in Trentino are 37%, compared to the national figure of 44.6%. A figure that can still decrease by limiting sedentary lifestyle, where however, with 14.8%, we are second only to our South Tyrolean neighbors, compared to an Italian average of 34.2%. The data on adequate nutrition (starting from the age of three) is also very good, with 22.4% of Trentino people following a balanced and balanced diet; in Italy the figure stops at 16.5%. On alcohol consumption, compared to the regions of the north-east which record risky alcohol consumption in 19% of those over 14, in Trentino the data is lower, even if there is room for improvement: the data record a 17% of Trentino citizens aged over 14 who regularly drink alcoholic beverages, while the Italian figure stands at 15.6%.

Making a broader discussion on the indicators by level of well-being, 73% of the indicators place us in a medium-high well-being class.

Extending the analysis to data on the quality of social, health and welfare services, we place ourselves in first place nationally in terms of residential beds (152.8 per thousand inhabitants) and the number of nursing staff (8.3 per thousand inhabitants) , while we are in the queue for the number of doctors (3.4 per thousand inhabitants). Instead, we stand out, together with other regions of the central north, for the high levels of trust in both healthcare professions.
