“The location of the radioactive and nuclear waste deposit must take into account not only the physical geographical conditions of the sites but also the environmental compatibility which first and foremost concerns the life of the communities, the vocations of economic development and productive, agricultural and tourist attractiveness. The identification of the areas in the Municipalities of Trapani and Calatafimi Segesta is completely in contrast with these socio-economic needs and cannot be accepted with the prospect of compensation for the Municipalities involved. It’s time to stop blocking paths to sustainable economic and employment development with welfare logics that humiliate the vitality and potential of local communities. It is unacceptable that the Schifani government does not say a word on this issue, demonstrating that it is subordinate to national choices.”

This was declared by Leoluca Orlando, leader of the Islands for the Alleanza Verdi Sinistra in the 2024 European elections, participating and confirming his support for the initiative “No to the radioactive waste storage in the province of Trapani”, this morning in Piazza Vittorio in Trapani
