We live in a historical moment in which the manpower crisis in businesses it represents the main obstacle to the economic growth of our territory. This is a reality we can no longer afford to ignore. The demand and supply of work in the Marche Region, and in particular in the province of Ancona, must find a balance to guarantee a sustainable future.

According to the Excelsior Information System Bulletin, created by Unioncamere and the Ministry of Labour, more than 446 thousand employment contracts, lasting more than a month or for an indefinite period, were planned by companies in April. This number rises to over 1.5 million for the April-June quarter, with a slight increase of approximately 3 thousand units compared to April 2023 (+0.7%) and a decline of over 46 thousand units on the corresponding quarter (-3.0 %).

The Dual Project, which CNA Ancona launched with the technical institutes of Senigallia, is an example of how we can face this challenge. During the presentation of the project alone, over 30 companies from the Senigallia area went to the Bettino Padovano institute with concrete hiring proposals. This is a positive signal, a signal that demonstrates how companies are ready to invest in the new generations, to believe in their potential.

But we don’t stop here. We are preparing a start-up project thermo-hydraulic profession, a rapidly growing sector with high development potential. In this project, there are 15 other companies ready to hire, ready to give a chance to those who want to undertake this profession. These are important steps towards solving the problem, steps that bring us ever closer to the goal.

The question of is also relevant immigrant workers: approximately 88 thousand hirings scheduled in the month, equal to 19.8% of the total. The economic sectors that have the greatest need for foreign manpower, it is specified, are those of operational support services for businesses and people (34.4% of hirings), transport, logistics and warehousing services (30.3%), construction (28.6%), metallurgy (21.2%) and wood-furniture (20.1%).

The economy of the Marche is based on growth in the number of graduates in technical and professional institutes. This is a fact. But we must do more. We must invest in training, we must create opportunities, we must build a future in which every young person can find their own path.

I appeal to schools and families: let’s think about a future where the dignity and storytelling of manual work is recognized as much as intellectual activities. Manual labor is no less important. In reverse, is critical for our economy and for our society. It is a job that requires skills, that requires passion, that requires dedication.

The future is in our hands. We cannot afford to stand still, to wait for things to change on their own. We must act, we must do our part. Because only in this way will we be able to build a better future, a future in which every young person can realize their dreams, a future in which every business can grow and prosper. Let’s act nowfor our future and for the future of the Marche.

Director of the CNA of Ancona
