At the closing rally of the electoral campaign at the headquarters of the Basilicata Casa Comune committee in Potenza, Angelo Chiorazzo said:
“The last 10 years have been those of failed development. Bardi and Pittella not only denied these opportunities to us and our children but also blamed the citizens of Lucania, making people believe that Basilicata was not capable of supporting its own development, instead of taking responsibility for their inabilities.
The case of forestation is emblematic. Trentino, with a reality of woods and forests similar to ours, has started a productive management of the resource with which it manages to annually produce in a renewable way one million cubic meters of wood that can be placed on the market.
Money with which not only are paid the salaries of the thousands of people who work in the sector, both public and private, but which leaves wealth for the Region.
In Basilicata, however, we use the money from royalties on this and we are not even able to guarantee stable employment by removing the workers from the hardship and humiliation of the redundancy fund, and from the humiliation of having to submit to the powerful person in charge, brazen enough to demand, it is story these days, that people move like puppets between this and that rally.
We in this sector are ready to give an employment opportunity to another 2000 people, including turnover and new jobs, and it’s not just forestry workers.
Because productive management of the forest heritage also requires different professionalism and managerial skills, those for which many of our children have studied, those that the many Lucanians who excel around the world have.
And we will also create job opportunities in other sectors, starting from public administration (starting with an agency for attractiveness, research and the territory that supports the birth of new initiatives, as already done for example in Emilia) and continuing with healthcare.
And we will also forcefully demand compliance with the oil companies’ obligation to bring employment to other sectors and we will invest the money from royalties in employment and services for citizens, while in the last 10 years Bardi and Pittella have spent over a billion euros between royalties and compensation without creating a single stable job.
We have municipalities that redo the squares every two years with that money, but at best only a few elderly people remain on those benches melancholy due to the distance of their children.
This set of actions will be able to produce six thousand jobs, half of them within 18 months.
Because there is a commitment we make: to give our children the chance to live in this region.
To train where they want in the world, just as our university must offer the opportunity to study to young people from all over the world, but then to be able to realize and spend working for this land and in this land”.
