Via Autostrada, comes the roundabout with a fountain

The transformation plan for Via Autostrada is starting to take shape. After the renovation of the A4 roundabout, the Municipality of Bergamo completes theconstruction of the roundabout with fountain at the intersection with via Carnovali, one of the historically most dangerous intersections in the southern area of the city of Bergamo. «It is starting to take shape because the intervention of Palazzo Frizzoni is the first of a series of improvements that will transform what until now has essentially been the entry and exit lane of the motorway into an avenue capable of representing a worthy business card visit the city” explains Palazzo Frizzoni. But let’s go in order.

The new roundabout has a size of 47 meters in diameter, made with two lanes; pedestrian crossings – equipped with backlit signs with flashing buoys and a lighting system – have been provided at each arm of the roundabout, with the exception of the one along Via Autostrada. In order to build the roundabout, the Municipality also intervened on the Punto Blu on via Autostrada, modifying the layout of the entrance and redesigning the perimeter of the de-paved spaces. The fountain – 15 meters in diameter, with 40 different jets of water – was built in the center of the new roundabout, which in turn is surrounded by a green ring in its outermost part.

Therefore, to make the operation of the fountain as sustainable as possible, the hydraulic system was designed to work with very high efficiency motors and latest generation lighting systems. Suffice it to say that the large flow rate of circulating water, of around 180 l/s, is handled, probably consuming as much as an electric-powered small car, while the 46 RGBW LED spotlights, in addition to the 80 meters of RGB LED strip, consume little overall. more than two halogen household light bulbs. Not only that: to minimize maintenance costs, the fountain was designed for total automation that can also be controlled remotely; Furthermore, municipal staff were specially trained for the “in house” management and maintenance of this hydraulic engineering prototype.

Via Autostrada will be a tree-lined avenue

Via the motorway there will also be a tree-lined avenue, with cycle paths bordering both sidesand owned by the municipality: the main access to the city of Bergamo will thus change by the end of next year for all those arriving in Bergamo from the A4 and the interurban axis. The idea of an urban access road and no longer a motorway connection ramp will therefore not be just a suggestion – the one that Peter Fink designed in 2016 with his summer school of the Masters of Landscape, an initiative desired with the ‘then environmental councilor Leyla Ciagà -, but it will be a reality by the end of 2025.
