‘Minority did everything to stop the autonomy bill’

“The majority supports the League’s project, the minority has done everything to stop the Bill”.

This is the opinion expressed by the councilors of the PD group to the Calabria Region at the end of the debate on differentiated autonomy in the Regional Council. Debate concluded with a document voted only by the centre-right majority.

“Today’s session of the Regional Council – say the Dem representatives – served to clarify the positions of the parties regarding Calderoli’s and the League’s bill on differentiated autonomy. The centre-right, obeying its governor, voted for a short-sighted document in full support of the process already started in Parliament for the approval of the ‘secession of the rich’, as defined by the Bishops of Calabria.

The opposition tried, in vain, to ask for a clear position against the reform, but their unitary document was rejected. A document which invited people to express blame for the words expressed by Minister Calderoli towards the southerners, to give impetus to a legislative initiative aimed at solidarity regionalism and to warn the national government against approving differentiated autonomy”.

“We have never seen President Occhiuto in such difficulty – say the dem councilors – who limited himself to saying ‘I am not a Masaniello’ to defend his position of total ambiguity on a reform that cancels the future of Calabria. Behind the usual slogan ‘no money no party’ Occhiuto, with the majority behind him, tried to keep himself in the balance with the hope that the reform will never be applied precisely due to the impossibility of financing the Lep. This is obviously pure irresponsibility. Calabria cannot afford to run a similar risk just for electoral interests and for the agreement reached in Rome to keep together the reform of the premiership, autonomy and justice, as Ernesto Alecci highlighted during his speech”.

“The Regional Council – conclude the Dems – has missed an important opportunity by sacrificing the possibility of defending the fundamental rights of the Calabrians, from healthcare to education, just to give Salvini an electoral advert. And Occhiuto has fully demonstrated his Pilatesque attitude, convinced that the Calabrians have the ring in their nose and do not understand what is happening, as Vice President Iacucci had announced during his speech”.
