In June last year the mayor of Savona Marco Russo contacted Asl2 and Opere Sociali di NS di Misericordia, the body that owns a portion of the surface, to talk about the idea of ​​creating a socio-health structure of provincial importance in the Orti area. Folconi. The discussion was then opened to the Region, the body responsible for healthcare in the area.

However, everything did not come to an end. Local health authority2, struggling with budgetary issues, and the region pressuring the general directors of local health authorities to avoid negative accounts, does not have the resources for a project that would cost tens of millions of euros.

The resources of the Pnrr have been dedicated to the reorganization of local healthcare, and the new socio-health plan is moving forward with community homes, community hospitals and COTs, all structures which will have the function of acting as a link between hospital facilities and local healthcare or, with other resources, to solve the problem of waiting lists.

Last December, Mayor Russo had urged ASsl2 with a letter to find out what the health company’s intentions were. “Until we have some form of financing – explains the general director of ASL2 Michele Orlando – we cannot commit to something bigger than ourselves. Of course, we need space but at the moment we do not have an open ministerial procedure to obtain such important funding“.

“The creation of a socio-health structure responds to two needs for us – says mayor Marco Russo – on the one hand that of providing a place of socio-health coordination in our city between the hospital and local health services, and on the other of unblocking an area of ​​our city. If the ASL has difficulty carrying out this project we will only be able to take note of it. However, our needs to unlock those spaces by dedicating them to a public vocation remain intact and we are waiting for the ASL to communicate its intentions to possibly take alternative routes“.
