FLORENCE – TheFirenze Democratica association will run alone in the next municipal elections for Florence, presenting Cecilia Del Re as mayoral candidate, former councilor of the Nardella council who in March was removed from the council, causing the split in December and the birth of FD, which in recent weeks broke with the Democratic Party and left the majority of Palazzo Vecchio. This was announced today by Cecilia Del Re herself, in a meeting at the Nidiaci gardens in Oltrarno. The starting point for Del Re is the criticism of the outgoing administration of Dario Nardella and of the PD – from which Del Re left after the party’s refusal to allow internal primaries to be held for the choice of candidate for mayor – accused of inconsistency on sustainability issues of urban development, the preservation of public and social spaces, the protection of the environment and urban greenery, the participation and involvement of citizens: “With Fd – he said – we are running because we know that otherwise many citizens would not have had a voice . There is too much self-referentiality and little direct connection with the territory. With this spirit we decided to apply: for a public, environmentally friendly city, accessible to all “.

The electoral committee will be inaugurated in Piazza Tasso on Saturday at 12pm. The Fd has also planned committees in via Gordigiani and via Gioberti. The decision for a “lone race” by Cecilia del Re and Firenze Democratcia comes at the end of weeks in which the political news spoke of possible electoral alliances both with Setfania Saccardi’s Italia Viva and within a left-wing coalition alternative to Pd with M5s and Left invoked by Tomaso Montanari’s 11 August Association. “I thank Stefania Saccardi for the appeals and esteem but the programmatic conditions were not there for a shared project”. Del Re also thanked the 11 August association and Montanari for their united effort, while not sparing the criticism of the Left of Dmitrij Palagi and M5s: “Sinistra Progetto Comune placed a veto on us, their opposition did not favor the birth of an alliance. Just as it did not favor the wait-and-see attitude of the M5s, where we understood that it is the top who decides.”

Del Re does not spare criticism, not even to the center-right candidate Eike Schmidt, an “authoritative personality” but who, he explains, on the stadium tramway and Cascine proposes wrong choices that are far from the FD’s recipes: “We are for the tramway, for the completion of the stadium Franchi and for the integrated management of the Cascine through a public-private Park Authority”. In view of a possible run-off, Del Re anticipates, Firenze Democratica will not support the centre-right coalition in any way. On the possible support for Sara Funaro’s PD, Del Re is less clear: “We are there to be the alternative to the Democratic Party” but at the same time he states: “Democratic Florence is a civic space but well anchored in the values ​​of the centre-left. We want the city to change course but not change sides. We’ll see at the ballot, it’s still too early to make predictions…”.
