Rho. Fraudster unmasked in Rho Pero: Police and family collaborate for a nice surprise
Rho Pero (MI): A scammer who was trying to deceive an elderly lady was unmasked and arrested thanks to the collaboration between Mrs. Giuliana, her daughter and the officers of the Rho Pero Police Station.
A well-conceived scam attempt
Mrs. Giuliana, 84 years old, received a phone call from a woman who, posing as her granddaughter, asked her for money and jewels to be able to pay for medical treatment. The fake niece told her that she was hospitalized in serious condition and urgently needed help.
Mrs. Giuliana’s intuition and collaboration with her daughter
Despite her concern for her granddaughter, Mrs Giuliana had a feeling that something was not right. While she continued to speak to the scammer on the landline, she began sending messages to her daughter via cell phone. Her daughter, calmly and clearly, reassured her mother by telling her that her real granddaughter was home safe and sound.
The intervention of the police and the trap for the scammer
With the confirmation of the suspicions, Mrs. Giuliana and her daughter contacted the State Police. The agents of the Rho Pero police station, directed by the Chief Commissioner Dr. Michela Palladino, suggested that the lady prepare a bag with an empty box inside to give to the scammer upon her arrival.

At the time of the meeting, the scammer showed up at Mrs. Giuliana’s house as agreed. The moment she received her bag, the police officers stationed nearby intervened and arrested her.
