In the moving atmosphere of the area outside the PalaMilone in Crotone, an inauguration full of meaning and emotion took place. It was an evening dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Steccato di Cutro tragedy and to hope for the future, with the presentation of the work “The Game of Humanity”.
The work, created by the renowned master goldsmith Gerardo Sacco, was conceived as a symbol of memory and rebirth for the Crotone community. The decision to dedicate this commemorative work was born from the will of the municipal council of the Municipality of Crotone, which wanted to honor the first anniversary of the Steccato di Cutro tragedy which occurred on 26 February 2023.
The “Game of Humanity” presents itself as a hopscotch, an artistic installation that brings to mind the joy of childhood and at the same time commemorates the lives lost. Gerardo Sacco shared with the public the creative process behind the work, starting from the symbols of the shoes, the colored numbers and the rising sun, also incorporating the motto of San Francesco di Paola, patron saint of Calabria and sailors. These elements have merged into a work that invites reflection and hope.
The inauguration ceremony saw the participation of the Polyphonic Choir of the “Anna Frank” school, which paid homage to the victims with a moving performance of “Esserihumani” by Marco Mengoni. Their voices filled the air with emotion, underlining the importance of humanity and hospitality.
Local authorities, including the mayor of Crotone Vincenzo Voce and the Prefect Franca Ferraro, expressed their support and solidarity with the community. The presence of citizens demonstrated a strong sense of unity and closeness towards those who suffered due to the tragedy.
The evening ended with the performance of the song “Girotondo around the world” by Sergio Endrigo by the young singers of the “Anna Frank” school, which conveyed a message of hope and rebirth for the future.
The inauguration of the “Game of Humanity” was a moment of profound emotion and reflection for the community of Crotone. The work represents a tangible symbol of memory and hope, a warning not to forget the victims and to look to the future with confidence.
