Young reporters for Umbria, the Region’s project that brings young people closer to journalism

The eighteenth edition of the International Journalism Festival opens with a look to the future. This morning in the Sala dei Notari, the winners of the ‘Young reporters from Umbria’ competition promoted by the Region were awarded.

The project The event was the completion of a 40-hour training course aimed at high school students in the area. The Italo Calvino institute of Citta della pieve, the Galileo Galilei scientific, classical and musical Annibale Mariotti high schools of Perugia and the Assunta Pieralli state high school participated, and the all-inclusive Rosselli-Rasetti institute of Castiglione del Lago. The project is aimed at introduce young people to the world of journalism. For approximately three months the students had the opportunity to learn the basics of the profession through lessons held by experts from the Italian Center for Radio and Television Journalism of the RAI in Ponte Felcino. The students were introduced to television journalism, participated in online storytelling workshops, acquired mobile journalism techniques, notions of diction and digital editing.

The videos The knowledge gained was then put into practice through the creation of videos, shot by the children with their devices, in which the projects of the Umbria Region were described. In fact, everything was also possible thanks to regional funding which gave young people the opportunity to approach the profession of journalist and at the same time to learn more about the area.

The prices The winner of the “Young reporters for Umbria” grand prize was the classical and musical high school Annibale Mariotti with the video “Bee-o-diversity” created by Benedetta Bisceglia, Francesca Viola Mariani, Ludovica Rusciano, Elena Terzaroli. Other prizes awarded: video most voted by the public, “The school of the future”, Galilei high school; most viewed video by the public, “The paths of Perugino”, Calvino institute; special mention from the junior jury, “Le strada del vino”, Pieralli high school; “The paths of Perugino” award for best images shot, Calvino institute; prize for the best music “The excellences of Trasimeno” Roselli-Rasetti institute; prize for the best story told “The feast of the woods” Galilei high school; prize for the best interview “I read for free” Galilei high school.
