Do you agree with those who question Pioli?
“They’ve been talking about it for a while. For me he is doing an excellent job again this year. He’s in second place. He’s showing a different philosophy. If he could make it to the end in Europe it would be a very positive season. When two Italians clash there is always the problem of the heaviest elimination.”
What’s wrong?
“He concedes a few too many goals. There is no longer a breakthrough midfielder. This year he has been shelved in the sense that he is not in the squad. The team plays in a different way. Let’s not forget, however, that Napoli and Inter had two seasons apart.”
What do you think about the Europa League match between Roma and Milan?
“For me this team can turn the result around if it plays at the highest level. The important thing is to find the thing that makes him play at the highest level. It depends more on Milan than on Roma.”
Can the fact of always being in doubt create problems for Pioli?
“When you are a coach, that doesn’t matter. It may be annoying but it shouldn’t matter. These things are implied by the profession of the coach. There are people who hope that Pioli does well and others who hope that Pioli does badly. You can’t be nice to everyone.”
