There is also the case of the mayor of Aprilia in the annual Public Notice report, presented this morning on the occasion of the “Administrators under fire” conference, at the headquarters of the National Italian Press Federation in Rome.

The president of the FNSI Vittorio Di Trapani, the president of Public Notice Roberto Montà, the undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior Wanda Ferro, the editor of the Dossier and head of the Parliamentary Observatory of Public Notice Claudio Forleo, the analysis director of Acled Andrea Carboni, presented the dossier relating to the intimidation suffered by local administrators during 2023, on the occasion of the meeting moderated by the Tg3 journalist Fabrizio Feo.

To close the event, the testimony of the mayor of Aprilia Lanfranco Principi, victim on 10 October 2023 of an act of intimidation perpetrated by unknown persons, who threw an incendiary bottle against the headquarters of the Azienda Speciale Aprilia Multiservizi and left a writing on the walls that he made the motive for the gesture clear, calling the mayor directly into question. “The intimidating act I suffered – stated the mayor Lanfranco Principi – is perhaps not comparable in severity to some of the cases reported in this annual report. However, it is not possible to diminish the significance of the act, nor the way in which it affects the life of a person who suffers it. These episodes have repercussions on the work and private life of the person and their family members, break serenity, fuel fears and worries and risk affecting normal administrative, working and private life activities. This is why greater awareness on the part of administrators and citizens is important, because every act of intimidation aimed at institutions is an act against their own democratic will and against their freedom”.

Although the numbers indicate a constantly decreasing trend over the years, with 315 episodes in 2023 compared to 574 in 2018, the lower number of complaints, the portion of episodes that remain unknown to the public opinion and a normalization of some types of intimidating acts, seem to be the cause of the numerical decrease in cases – only 4 of which were recorded in the Province of Latina out of 11 which occurred in the Lazio Region. For this reason, at the conclusion of the work, the invitation addressed to administrators and politicians at various levels to keep high attention on the phenomenon.
