ASTI Yesterday morning (Tuesday 16 April), the Police and Carabinieri, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Asti, executed a precautionary custody order in prison issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Asti against the man who in the month of February had caused considerable concern among Asti traders by carrying out a series of robberies close to closing time.
Among the man’s main goals were pharmacies and grocery stores into which he entered armed with a knife (on one occasion also with a gun) and with his face partially covered by a neck warmer and a baseball cap pulled down over his eyes to take possession, through threats towards the employees, of the money contained in the tills.
From the first investigations (acquisition of testimonies, viewing of images, shadowing services), the Police and Carabinieri had converged suspicions on DM known criminal from Asti. The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Asti, deeming the evidence collected independently by the two police forces to be well founded, therefore promoted a targeted investigative activity against the man.
The turning point came on March 15th when the man decided to carry out the action that was fatal to him; with the usual methods he showed up at a grocery store in Corso Alessandria attempting to rob it. Inside the business, this time, there was a customer who, not at all intimidated, reacted and immobilized him, allowing the timely arrival of State Police personnel.
The police, present nearby for a targeted anti-robbery service, therefore promptly intervened and arrested the man. The comparison between the clothing worn at the time of the arrest and that recorded by video surveillance during the other robberies, as well as other investigative elements appropriately collected, also made it possible to attribute to the man the events on which investigations were already underway.
DM was subjected to the restrictive measure at the Vercelli prison, where he is detained for another reason.
