Lamezia Terme – Two students from the VC class of the Liceo Classico-Artistico ‘F. Fiorentino’ of Lamezia Terme, Stella Roperto and Pierfrancesco Senese, passed the Regional Phase of the former Olympics Classical Languages ​​and Civilizations Championships, placing first in the Greek-Latin Civilizations section and in the Greek Language section respectively. The two students will thus participate in the National Final on 9 May 2024, which will be held at the “Ovidio” Institute of Higher Education in Sulmona (AQ).

The competition, now in its 12th edition, for the 2023-2024 school year, is promoted and organized by the General Directorate for school systems and for the evaluation of the national education system of the Ministry of Education and Merit in collaboration with the Regional School Offices and with the support of the “Ovidio” Higher Institute of Sulmona. This competition is included in the annual Excellence Program of the Ministry of Education and Merit, with the aim of promoting the strengthening of knowledge and skills relating to the civilizations and cultures of the ancient world, for a dialogue between classicism and contemporaneity. The recipients of the competition are students of the second two-year period and the last year of state and private secondary schools.

The Regional Phase, it is explained, took place on 5 April 2024 simultaneously in all Italian regions in synchronous online mode on a digital platform, with equal tests for all students. The Championships are divided into three Sections: A) Latin Language; B) Greek language; C) Latin or Greco-Latin civilization. Great satisfaction was expressed by the Headmaster Nicolantonio Cutuli, by the Institute representative for the Classical Languages ​​and Civilizations Championships Professor Marzia Folino, by Professors Maria Cristina Cittadino and Serena Sorrenti, Latin and Greek teachers of the finalist students, for the commitment and the results achieved by the students and for the fruitful work of the entire school which continues to achieve excellent educational and teaching goals.
