«Messina is an unfortunate city, it’s true. Yet, I loved it and I still love it, because I lived it in friendship: the people of Messina are the fortune of this city.” Thus Elisabetta’s voice recounts her encounters with the inhabitants of a restless city, accustomed to studying the passage of sailors. The rumors then spread, as they say, but this time they also remain on the spot. In fact, the two phenomena coexist on Loquis, in the stories told by those who live in or pass through a territory and leave a sound impression on the community of other travellers.

On the occasion of the International Voice Day, the travel podcast app created by Bruno Pellegrini and founded with Fabrizio Cialdea inaugurates the “100 voices for 100 places” channel: 100 new podcasts, one for each Italian provincial capital, published simultaneously for draw a new map of stories, traditions and curiosities. Each contribution is curated by voice professionals who are part of the Loquis Factory, a passionate and creative network for authorial travel podcasting that expands the numerous contents already offered spontaneously by users. Among the various contributions, the atlas of speaking places hosts a section dedicated to Messina with insights edited by Elisabetta Ricciuti.

Writer from Catania, passionate about photography and storyteller at heart. «I need to talk and tell – she explains – and I see the podcast as a way to share a story, like my parents and my grandmother did with me before going to bed, only on a large scale». Thus, from the still black shadow of the great earthquake to the broken scenarios drawn by the great war, the stories of the city are a bridge between the abandoned barracks on the hills and the terrors of the Castellaccio.

Each voice passes on a way of life and a different look at the home of Charybdis, where the value is the encounters, as can only be in a city on the Strait. The discovery of an ancient but at the same time new land emerges, beyond the idea of travel as a consumer good and the related format of the “gelocalized review”, for an authentic encounter with its identity and its community. The soul of places has the voice of people.

A voice looking for company, between a tour of Villa Mazzini, a granita at the Torino bar and off-season dives at Torre Faro. «What is more Sicilian than stories told orally?», confirms Ricciuti. In the name of a new digital humanism, Loquis invites all lovers of the immense heritage that precedes and accompanies the visible one, in the stories of those who have built part of the imagination linked to a particular place, to offer its own version. In fact, this sound atlas has infinite pages still to be written. An opportunity open to all podcasters on Loquis to help enrich the telling of the stories of the world, to be an active part of this unique experience, contributing with the story of their places to inspire those who travel to rediscover the beauty of reality with new eyes .
