VARESE – Together with Trentino Varese it will be the first territory in Italy to use the signs for cycling itineraries that follows the standards ofImba, the international body responsible for the matter. It is one of the main innovations of the project Doyoubikeborn in 2021, which continues and grows in view of the summer with a calendar of promotional tours that will last until October.
Three new videos
The next steps of the project wanted by the Chamber of Commerce, with its 2000 kilometers of mapped routes and more than 50 trained guides, were illustrated this morning, Wednesday 17 April, following the showcase of the Cycle Tourism Fair, in which Varese participated at the beginning of the month in Bologna with positive feedback. First novelty illustrated i three new area promotional videosmade by Marco Tessaro, which follow the institutional one launched a year ago. These are the Verbano Valleys, the Ticino Valley and the Land of Lakes. Filming will begin shortly for three other short films, relating to the areas of the Comunità Montana Valli del Piambello, the Campo dei Fiori Park and the Pineta Park. Realities and entities whose contacts and representatives were present today during the presentation.
Tours and signs
In the meantime, the guides trained thanks to the project have developed the program of the promotional tours scheduled from April 21st to mid-October: excursions that will touch all six areas, covering the entire provincial territory. «Of great importance – underlined the president of the Chamber of Commerce Mauro Vitiello – also the commitment in relation to the signage of the itineraries: it is being prepared according to the standards of Imba, the international body responsible for the matter. Varese will be among the first territories to adopt them in Italy together with Trentino and following the example that comes from much of Europe as well as the United States”. By the beginning of next month the signs will be installed along the first two itineraries, on Mount Orsa and on Piambello. Varese therefore arises in step with Trentino, a model in Italy that Varese wants to follow. «A comparison that is not intended to be from a competitive point of view – added the president – let’s treasurelet’s try to understand what good they have done knowing that we we have added value».
Columns and official points
The effort to install charging stations for e-bikes also continues. All those in the areas of Piambello and the Verbano Valleys have already been prepared, other areas are also being infrastructured, with the aim of soon reaching the planned quota of 38 charging stations operational. Another important step of Doyoubike is the diffusion throughout the entire provincial territory of the “official point”: qualified commercial operators, including hospitality, catering and services, who are in direct contact with visitors. After the training courses that will soon follow the managers of the new structures included in the initiative their number will rise to 80. A novelty in the last few hours is then a educational tours which in the coming weeks will feature journalists from some of the main Italian newspapers in the sector. A promotional itinerary entitled “Ice and Bubbles” has been prepared for them which, starting from the Madonnina di Azzate, will reach Cazzago Brabbia ice houses. Here journalists specializing in cycle tourism will come into contact with the fascinating history of these structures and taste the flavors of Varese’s food and wine goods, toasting with sparkling wine from local producers.
The numbers of cycle tourism
Varese’s efforts are aimed at investing in a sector, that of active & green, with continually growing numbers. The latest data processed by the Observatory on the Tourism Economy of the Chambers of Commerce say that in the last year cycle tourism in Italy recorded over 56 million attendance, up 4% also compared to 2019 which represented the reference point. Not only that, because the economic impact exceeds 5.5 billion euros (+35% over twelve months).
