The meeting entitled “Against food waste: rules and good practices” promoted by Confcommercio itself and by the FIPE union (Italian Federation of Public Businesses), belonging to the Confederation galaxy.

It will be an opportunity to take stock of the fight against food waste in restaurants, bars and clubs and to discuss possible solutions. After the institutional greetings from the provincial president of Confcommercio, Antonio Metauro, the Honorable Giandiego Gatta, first signatory of the bill on the mandatory nature of the doggy bagLuciano Sbraga, Director of the Research Offices of FIPE Confcommercio, who will present the “rimpiattino” and Pasquale Cipriani, software developer of the associated company Asernet and developer of the app LET’S move forward peoplewhich aims to raise awareness in the community about conscious and sustainable consumption of food.

Seventy-five grams of food: this is the amount that each of us wastes daily, for a total of 524 grams per week and almost 28 kilograms per year. These are not positive data even though, compared to past years, there is a more widespread and greater awareness of this issue and, above all, there is more attention from the new generations, who continue to be much more sensitive than the previous ones on the issues environmental and sustainability”, declared Antonio Metauro, president of Confcommercio Imprese for the Italian province of Foggia. “The European Union has set us objectives by 2030. In particular, it asks us to reduce waste in catering and food retailing by 30% and it is for this reason that we strongly wanted this meeting: we need to contribute to strengthening the debate on good functional practices to stem this phenomenon. Furthermore, a debate that FIPE Confcommercio has been carrying forward for some time. I therefore thank the Director of the Research Office, Luciano Sbraga, for accepting our invitation and the Honorable Giandiego Gatta, who promoted a legislative initiative of great value. Our Confederation promotes the use of the “rimpiattino”, an eco-design container useful for allowing customers to easily take uneaten food and drinks home; more than 800 restaurants in Italy that are part of the Confcommercio galaxy have joined this initiative and it is our wish that this trend will be confirmed in our Province and the use of the Rimpiattino will spread”, concluded Metauro.
