The CEO of Monza is very harsh towards Milan and other big names, the reasons for the senator’s dissent

Italian football needs to be reformed: this is the number one objective of the FIGC president Gabriele Gravina who has been working for several months on various changes regarding our Serie A.
There are too many problems for our football: from the lack of aid from the Government to the ceased possibility of using the Growth Decree to the economic after-effects of Covid.

Among the most impactful proposals relating to this possible revolution is that of reduction in the number of teams participants in the top Italian championship, from the current 20 to 18.
A totally proposal divisive: on the one hand the big ones, in particular Inter, Milan, Roma and Juventus in favor of the change and on the other the medium-small ones who, logically, intend to maintain the current format.

One of the most important personalities in the history of Italian football, the senator and CEO of Monza, expressed his opinion on the proposal Adriano Galliani who harshly criticized the position taken by Milan and the other big names.

Speaking before the Culture and Education Committee of the Senate on the prospects for reform of Italian football, the former president of the defunct Lega Calcio launched a real broadside against the big teams of our championship: ”It is their ideas that exacerbate the conflicts within the League”.

The senator’s words are aimed at protecting the positions of small clubs which, in the event of a reduction, would risk remaining out of the top league. Galliani’s proposal is to guarantee gods for these companies revenues in case of relegation.

Galliani in fact stated how, if he had still been the most important sports manager of the Via Turati club, he would certainly have looked for a solution ”less rough” compared to that predicted by the top clubs in our championship.
The CEO of Monza also stated how the possible reduction move would result in increasing the already significant gap between: ”The top teams, who have a turnover of 500 million, and the last ones who have a turnover of 50 million”.

President Gravina also spoke in the Senate and regarding the issue relating to the number of teams participating in the top championship, he stated that the FIGC has left wide autonomy to Serie A in this regard and that the Serie A League is free to self-determine in relation to format to be adopted.
