ROVIGO – Monday evening, at the Gran Guardia hall in Rovigo, Electra Stamboulis and Khaled Al Zeer presented the program of the list ‘Peace Earth Dignity‘ in which they are candidates in the North East constituency.
This is the list, promoted by Raniero La Valle and Michele Santoro in view of the European elections, for the presentation of which signatures are also being collected in Rovigo. The two candidates reiterated the core of the program that the name of the list summarizes: rejection of war with a strong reference to article 11 of the Italian Constitution and the raison d’être of the European Union, betrayed by its current leaders; rejection of rearmament policies and a war economy in which we are already immersed and which destroys any prospect of social justice and environmental protection.
The list was born, the two candidates recall, out of the need to bring to the European Parliament the voice of all those who have remained silent in the face of the unanimous chorus of political forces and the media that portray war as inevitable. To this must be added, they underline, the very serious democratic emergency: the ongoing massacre in Gaza can only be talked about within the narrow confines of aligned information. In Berlin, on April 12, the police interrupted a Congress on Palestine and even banned Varoufakis, a former Greek minister, not only from speaking but from engaging in political activity in Germany. The Israeli occupation and the apartheid regime, to which the Palestinians in the West Bank are forced, go unnoticed and, in very democratic Europe, it cannot be said that the systematic killing of thousands and thousands of children in Gaza is a genocide.
In their conclusions, Stamboulis and Al Zeer, who took turns at the microphone with different accents and unity of purpose, reiterate the importance of bringing a voice of peace to Europe.
