Emilia-Romagna, Unionbirrai: applause for regional law on craft beer

Enhance regional microbreweries and craft beers, promoting sustainable development and responsible and informed consumption, as well as the professional updating and qualification of operators, aiming at the creation of a regional brewing supply chain by encouraging the local production of raw materials, primarily hops and barley. These are the main objectives of the law on the promotion and valorisation of craft beer approved today unanimously by the Emilia-Romagna Regional Council. The law, first signed by councilor Matteo Rancan (Lega), was signed by representatives of PD, Lega, ER Coraggiosa, Italia Viva, FDI, Rete Civica, Forza Italia, MoVimento 5 Stelle, Europa Verde, Lista Bonaccini and Gruppo Misto .

A choral and bipartisan effort to support the Emilia-Romagna brewing ferment – declares the deputy director of Unionbirrai, Andrea Soncini – After all, today’s unanimous approval represents the quintessence of the socializing and convivial aspects intrinsic to beer. We thank the councilor for Agriculture Alessio Mammi, the councilors Matteo Rancan and Francesca Marchetti, respectively promoter and rapporteur of the measure, and all the political forces who understood the value of a rule that we strongly hope for. Emilia-Romagna is thus a candidate to concretely support and promote the regional brewing supply chain”.

The Region will establish a list of artisanal and agricultural microbreweries with production facilities in the regional territory and will create a dedicated online portal. Added to this is the possibility of using a logo for Emilia-Romagna breweries and the promotion of brewery tourism which could prove to be a further opportunity to enhance the excellence of the sector.

“We believe the rule is an excellent starting point for developing policies capable of supporting beer producers even more, – adds Federico Bianco, regional representative of Unionbirrai Emilia-Romagna – not only with regards to promotion to consumers but also from the point of view of training operators and for structural interventions to modernize and renew the plants so that we can always count on cutting-edge regional production”.
