Tourism, a meeting of the DMO Terre di Siena was held on Thursday 11 April to toast the new tourist season and to present the new challenges of the future which will see its members as protagonists.

An evening of business networking to toast the new season that is upon us and to present the many activities carried out on multiple fronts for the valorization of the area in a sustainable way, and to talk about the challenges that await the Destination Management Organization (DMO) Terre di Siena.

The DMO is a third sector body registered with RUNTS, an association based on non-profit voluntary work. The DMO Destination Management Organization, born less than a year ago, brings together public and private and is open to all tourism entities.

The Municipality of Siena has undertaken an ambitious path towards GSTC certification and for the second year, it will be the first art city in Italy to obtain this recognition.

For the development and growth of Tourism, the DMO was created with the Municipality of Siena and 8 other Municipalities in the area: Sovicille, Rapolano Terme, Asciano, Buonconvento, Chiusdino, Monteroni D’Arbia, Murlo and Monticiano.

“If it is true that unity is strength – and that especially in these times it is necessary to unite with each other to gain mutual advantage – the DMO Terre di Siena – declares the president of Serena Bianciardi, operator of the tourism sector – becomes a strategic container for the implementation of an extremely challenging program of both the Certification and the strategic plan presented by the Councilor for Tourism and Commerce of the Municipality of Siena Vanna Giunti.

“How a team plays as a whole determines success. You can have a group of the best stars in the world, but if they don’t play well together, the team won’t be worth a cent.”. I take up the words of the baseball player Babe Ruth to give the meaning of our precious and not obvious collaboration, which brings together many public and private tourism entities for the valorization of the territory, focusing on the broadest involvement of stakeholders”.

The DMO has reiterated its commitment above all through constant synergistic work that can favor and promote a quality network, made up primarily of our members, keeping in mind the focus, that is, creating a collective vision towards sustainability with outdoor tourism and experiential tourism.

To this end, the DMO Terre di Siena is operating on various fronts and segments as reported below:

  • The DMO met with the institutions and operators of all the municipalities in the area, thus trying to gather the needs and suggestions of each member. Furthermore, it is promoting the promotion of the various tourist destinations in our territory by seizing various concrete opportunities for members.
  • The DMO participated in the control room meetings organized by the Municipality of Siena to work on the drafting of the strategic plan in a sustainable way.
  • The DMO took part in the latest edition of the BIT in Milan together with the Municipality of Siena in the Toscana Promozione pavilion and held B2B meetings followed by the travel agency, FINELIFE, a member of the DMO. This and other trade fair opportunities are within our program and will be reserved exclusively for DMO members.
  • During the aperitif with RCS at Strade Bianche, the DMO presented the network of associates to companies and agencies operating in the bike segment. And as part of the Ambitour of Anci Toscana it showed the network of its members.
  • There was also no lack of presence of the DMO in Abbadia Isola in February at the IX annual Forum on the Via Francigena and on paths of regional interest.
  • The DMO is actively collaborating with the Municipality of Siena for the creation of tourist products intended for sale in packages, which will also have the task of protecting the environmental and cultural heritage of the Terre di Siena area. To name a few, the Siena Follonica, the Periplus of Siena, the Walking Francigena Ultramarathon, the Urban Trekking 2025 and the Gran Tour of the Val di Merse.
  • The DMO is working at the table of tour operator members for incoming to our destination, trying to create the best conditions to become licensees of the Strade Bianche 2025 event and to sell tourist products and promote the city’s events.
  • The DMO also supports the InfoShop initiative which sees commercial establishments as tourist information points as protagonists.
  • The DMO Terre di Siena will manage an app, developed and customized for us by the Municipality of Siena, to above all create “virtual” work tables and to allow all members to take part in the initiatives and stay updated on the various projects. And it will soon also make available a physical and virtual desk to listen and engage with tourism operators in the sector and in the area.

The DMO wants to become a competitive lever for the extraordinary Terre di Siena area by bringing together as many public and private organizations in a systemic approach that involves the excellence of the tourism sector.
