Forty years of history of the twinning between Fano and Rastatt, a German city in Baden-Württemberg, celebrated with the volume “Fano-Rastatt, bonds of friendship” (Ed. Ideostampa) by the journalists Silvano Clappis and Marco Giovenco on a graphic project by Elisa Zampa. The book, published with the Municipalities of Fano and Rastatt, the Province and Landkreis Rastatt, and created with the support of Friends without Borders, Hauraton and Bcc Fano, collects in 132 pages full of texts, documents and mostly unpublished historical images, the beautiful story of a twinning born by chance.
In fact, it was July 1983 when the mayor of Fano received a letter signed by Paolo Carosa, an Italian social worker who worked in Rastatt, in which he informed that the castle of the German city had been designed and built in 1697 by a Fano architect, Domenico Egidio Rossi, trusted designer of Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden. The Fano administration seized the opportunity and proposed a twinning, a symbolic union between communities and peoples of different nations which, in those years, had the aim of facilitating the common European vision.

And tourist trips, like the trips promoted by the Rastatto newspaper Badisches Tageblatt and by its editor-in-chief and great friend of Fano, Harald Besinger, who for years brought thousands of Germans to the Fano Riviera, producing significant revenue for the local economy.
