The president of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio and the mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo they wrote to the top management of RFI and Trenitalia to report some critical issues concerning the Airport station of the new Turin-Ceres railway.

With a number of passengers up by 47% on weekdays and 171% on holidays, the line is confirming itself among those of greatest importance for the area. According to initial estimates, around a thousand passengers pass through the Turin Caselle Airport station every day.

The problems reported by citizens and tourists, of which the Region and the City have acted as spokespersons, concern both the station and the use of the railway service by passengers. The railway station would require greater lighting to guarantee the safety of its users and the activation of the escalators, which are currently not yet functional, as well as the addition of digital signs and billboards to better orient passengers and to indicate the platform for Turin. Furthermore, for a non-local user it is difficult to understand in the Turin Porta Susa and Lingotto stations that the Ciriè direction is also the one for the airport. The requests also include a necessary upgrade of the ticket office, the activation of a monitor with the real-time timetables of the next departing trains, and a review of the procedures dedicated to passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility.

“The direct connection between the center of Turin and the airport represents a truly important leap in quality in the connection system of our territory, also from a tourist perspective as demonstrated by the numbers from the first months of use – highlights President Cirio – Now it is fundamental continue the work and we have asked RFI and Trenitalia to make an effort to further improve the usability of the line”.
