Over the top, modern and amazing.
‘Rush!’, the new album by Måneskin, already starts with a premise with a bang. A flying review of what is considered a bible of music, Rolling Stone magazine.
The third album of the Italian band composed by Damiano David (vocals), Victoria De Angelis (bass), Thomas Raggi (guitar) and Ethan Torchio (drums), will be released on January 20th. Contains 17 tracks. This is the third and first album sung mainly in English. It will be preceded on January 13 by the release of the single ‘Gossip’ in collaboration with the legendary Tom Morello, guitarist of Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band.
Author of the article on Rolling Stone, the expert music journalist David Browne, who compares the band to the rockers of the past, full of excess, flamboyance and libertinage.
“Remember – he writes – when rockers were flashy, excessive, exaggerated libertines? Neither are we, but Måneskin are here to refresh our memories. On the third album Rush! the former Eurovision winners and aspiring rock saviors from Rome go all out to live up to the exclamation point in the title”.
“Judging from the lyrics – he continues – the life of the Måneskin would seem like one bacchanal after another, with weed, beer, coke and hot chicks at hand, while the singer Damiano David is, to put it in his own words, ‘a lion tamer who behaves indecently and makes love to danger'”. Browne writes again quoting the band’s frontman that his being ‘hot’ is due to the fact that he is Italian.
The reporter defines Rush! also their most ambitious album which in addition to punk sounds (defined as a milkshake of stadium chants, ed) also contains irresistibly catchy pieces such as ‘Baby Said’ or ‘Gossip’.
“It gets even better – he adds – when Måneskin revitalize the lost art of ironic, half-spoken new wave song, as in the funny and mocking ‘Kool Kids’ and ‘Bla Bla Bla’ where David sings: ‘You said I’m ugly and my band sucks, but a song of mine just passed a billion streams, so kiss my cu-cu-cu-cu-cu-cu-ass’.
In addition to defining Damiano as a real rock star, Browne also praises guitarist Thomas Raggi and underlines that Måneskin, ‘are the only great rock band capable of influencing contemporary popular culture’.
He concludes his review by saying that ‘Of course, the best moments are the exaggerated ones, while the most sincere ones are the weakest’, and that ‘If Not for You’ is a power ballad like many others, ‘The gift of life’ is heated grunge’
