The son of journalist Elena Martelli, Bernardo Marziani, died at the age of 20. The announcement was made on “Estate in diretta”, the new Rai1 program last Friday 14 June. Elena Martelli, the journalist’s son dies
Bernardo Marziani died on 14 June 2024 at the age of 20, he was born on 20 August 2003 and was the son of the journalist and writer Elena Martelli (author of Summer in Direct) and the art critic Gianluca Marziani. Bernardo was a model, and on his social networks he spoke openly about his tumor: an Ewing sarcoma in his left leg which he had been diagnosed with in 2022. The boy lived between Rome and Amsterdam where he studied. The sad announcement was made by journalists Nunzia de Girolamo and Gianluca Semprini on Estate in diretta.

«This tumor, Ewing’s sarcoma, was diagnosed two years ago, in 2022, localized in my left leg, with excruciating pain that got worse, until my leg “died”, and I found it. I did all the chemotherapy in the protocol, preliminary to the operation, but shortly before they operated on me, I became metastatic, and therefore they had to change the therapy; it’s as if the disease becomes chronic, and simply needs to be kept at bay», said Berni (as his friends called him) on social media.
He had talked about the therapy, the symptoms of the radiotherapy and also gave advice to the patients like when he told about the existence of a cooling helmet that is used during infusion chemo to limit hair loss. Since January his clinical situation has worsened.

«Until January everything was fine in Amsterdam, only with some leg problems, which were then resolved with radiotherapy; but then a lung effusion was underestimated, which destroyed me, caused by a progression of lung cancer, caused by failed chemo. Until then I had never been symptomatic, and seeing myself sick was difficult. I was hospitalized for a week due to that spill, then recently I had two very tough ‘red chemo treatments’, but now I’m much better than I was two months ago».
