«Long live our doctors»

Ghali shares with his followers on Instagram (3.6 million) his participation in «Ieo con le donne», the event that the European Institute of Oncology, founded by Umberto Veronesi in 1994, dedicates every year to those who live or have lived the experience of cancer. Surprisingly, it was the Milanese rapper himself who spoke about it on the stage of the Teatro Manzoni in Milan, recalling the drama of the breast cancer that affected his mother, Amel, to whom he is very close, twice: the first time, in 2001, when he was a child and another time during the pandemic. In the stories Ghali publishes a shot together with Paolo Veronesison of Umberto and director of the Ieo breast care program, and the actress Lella Costawho spoke at the event.

In the photo Ghali makes the victory sign and tags the European Institute of Oncology; in the next image you can see the singer’s mother, Amel (Arabic name meaning hope) together with doctor Francesca De Lorenzi and, following, the writing «Long live our doctors» on a sky blue background. The rapper has always shown deep respect and gratitude towards doctors, declaring that he feels «so much admiration for them. On the other hand, my mother always wanted me to become a pilot or a doctor,” he said.

«There is no therapy, traditional or innovative – declares Paolo Veronesi – that today can be developed without the woman’s capacity for self-determination. In reality, at Ieo patients have contributed to shaping care since the first steps of breast medicine, in 1994. In thirty years we have operated on over 90,000 women and enrolled 24,000 in clinical trials for innovative therapies. We can say that some of the greatest revolutions in surgical techniques in recent decades have occurred in Ieo operating rooms, with the convinced participation of the patients».
