RIFF 2024: the highlights of a growing event

We had come for the first time to Riviera International Film Festival of Sestri Levante last year, remaining favorably impressed. It is a small festival very well rooted in the territory, which involves the new generations both as jurors and competitors, giving space to a cinema that is committed, rebellious, independent and different. What drives it forward are the great passion of the organizers, starting from the founder and president Stefano Gallini Durante and the directors and co-founders Vito D’Onghia And Chiara Fiorini, to reach all the staff who deal with logistics, in addition to the important support of the sponsors and the positive response of the citizens, who fill the cinemas and this year were sold out – on the day dedicated to Michelangelo Antonioni – to the screenings of Zabriskie Point And Blow Up. If the festival has a flaw, if anything (but calling it a flaw is ungenerous), it is truly the large quantity of events and screenings that add up over the course of a day and which are not always easy to make up for if busy with something else.

But the proposal is varied and able to please everyone, from the presence on the jury of a star like Susan Sarandonof a master of editing like Peter Scalia to the third Oscar winner Eva Orner and the director Andrew Dominik, to the various panels in which sector experts illustrate the state of the film and television industry, to the meetings with film and TV stars, so many this year. After the cast of Me and Seccowhich returns home with two well-deserved awards, and that of comedy Masculine pluralsequel to the huge success of Masculine singularthey have arrived Amber Angiolini, Carlotta Natoli, Rossella Brescia (The Holy One), Nicolas Maupas And Damiano Gavino For A professor, Andrea Dodero And Fadh Triki Of Block 181, Martina Stella protagonist of a brilliant meeting with the public, Enrica Fico and in connection from Brazil the director and producer who they will finally bring to the screen after 50 years Technically sweetthe screenplay that the master from Ferrara Michelangelo Antonioni failed to transpose into film, and again: Belen And Cecilia Rodriguez For Celebrity Huntedas well as Raoul Bova And Rocio Munoz Morales, protagonists at the end of a nice meeting about their work and their family, full of passion and positive messages. It’s still Veronica Gaido And Joe Dreherthe wonderful one Susan Sarandonwith Scalia And Andrew Dominik protagonist of a crowded masterclass… and we are sure that we forget many of the guests who took turns in the various, central and beautiful locations of the festival. In conclusion, we wish the RIFF to grow more and more, without ever forgetting the heart of its mission: to keep a beacon lit not only on entertainment but above all on the new generations, to whom we can transmit positive messages of peace, creativity and protection of our much maligned world, as up until now, through these six days of cinema and cultural exchanges, he has managed to do.
