PALERMO- “The tones were softer than last time. But the substance does not change. From the 20th of each month we will be forced to suspend the services under the agreement.”

Thus doctor Salvatore Gibiino, coordinator of Cimest the ‘Inter-union coordination of local specialist medicine’, after a second meeting in the department.

The first ‘black smoke’

The first was held at the end of Aprilbetween the representatives of this very important portion of affiliated private healthcare and the councilor Giovanna Volo, but it didn’t go well. Cimest, in an official note, complained: “A hostile attitude”.

This time, the regional health councilor was not there – so the unions report – the discussion saw the presence of the manager of the Strategic Planning department, Salvatore Iacolino.

“We are waiting for the decree to decide which formal attitude to choose – says Gibiino -. We are asking for 350 million euros, necessary to do our job well and reduce waiting lists. The Region went up a bit with its quota: 302 million, plus eight for the so-called secondary prevention which aims to avoid the complications of a pathology”.

More relaxed tones, but…

“These are insufficient funds – continues the trade unionist – which, I can anticipate, will force us to suspend the services under the agreement from the 20th. And it will be a serious inconvenience for everyone”.

Tones less harsh than the statement of April 29th in which a demonstration was announced in front of the Presidency of the Region. Nuances that would suggest a more relaxed approach. But the substance, in fact, does not change.

The wait for managers

That of the relationship with private individuals it is one of the many open discussions in our healthcare. Then there is the purely public sphere that awaits the white smoke for managers.

The names of the general managers have already been chosen at the end of January (Read the full list here) and there will be no backtracking. Yet, the green light was slow in arriving. And the general directors still remain “only” extraordinary commissioners.
