“We invite you to undergo screening.” But the patient has been dead for a year
Descriptive text here

He received an invitation to undergo one health screening, through a letter sent by the cancer prevention center in which emphasis was also placed on his failure to respond to previous invitations. So far everything is normal, were it not for the fact that on the date of receipt of the letter in question, the recipient of the same was already deceased from one year. This is the surreal story that comes from Prato, according to what was reported today by the newspaper The nation. The event was made known by the widow of the man (an entrepreneur resident in the Tuscan city) to whom the Local Health Authority had advised him screening: in recent hours he has in fact received the standard text letter sent to the health authority for users in the area. Which in this specific case however takes on paradoxical implications, in light of the user’s death.

“We invite you to participate in the program for the prevention and early diagnosis of intestinal cancers (colorectal) – we apparently read in the letter –scientifically proven that doing this test regularly can save your life.” Asl he was evidently unaware of the man’s death, which apparently occurred over twelve months ago. And to make the story even more paradoxical, with hindsight, there is a passage in the aforementioned letter in which the health company focused on the no answers given by the user to the previous requests addressed to him to be visited. “Unfortunately you did not respond to previous invitations – continues the document that the man’s widow found in the mailbox – but we hope that this time you too will become part of the people who respond to our invitation, because it is never too late to take care of your health”.

Answers never arrived because, as it seems easy to understand today, the man had disappeared in the meantime. He therefore dealt with one oversight, but which if repeated with other users risks exacerbating the pain felt by the families of the deceased. And it is for this reason that the wife of the deceased entrepreneur addressed an invitation to the local health authority, asking for a more diligent update of the patient databases and for greater attention in the future. “As soon as I saw the envelope I immediately understood what it was about before opening it, given that unfortunately in recent years I have had to become familiar with these things. I point out this situation not so much for easy criticism against anyone – declared the woman – but to invite you to have more Attention in these things.

So as not to upset those who have lost a loved one and see letters of this type arriving.”
