Focus on prevention

He is also on the front line for prevention Stefano Alvergna, scientific director of the Fadoi Foundation. “The internal medicine doctors of our hospitals are on the front line because prevention must return to occupy a leading place within the national health system – he explains – because every euro invested in prevention has a return of three times as much both in terms of health of citizens and with respect to the costs of the health service”.

Words he also echoes Andrea Longanesi, health director of the Bologna Local Health Authority. “We always aim for prevention – he underlines – we must convince citizens to implement a whole series of measures to avoid diseases, among which cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death. Even in Emilia-Romagna, in line with the rest of the country, these pathologies account for approximately 20% of the causes of death”.
