Team Picnic PostNL, Alex Edmondson leaves professional cycling at 32: “It’s a sport I’ve given everything to for the last 20 years”

The professional career of Alex Edmondson ends with the last day of 2025. The Australian rider announced his decision to leave pedaled cycling, at least among the pros, with a long post on Instagram, in which he anticipates “a new chapter in his life”. The 32-year-old concluded his third season in the uniform Team Picnic PostNLa team in which he made his debut in 2023 after years in ORICA-BikeExchange (now Jayco-AlUla), with which he went pro in 2016. In recent years, the class of ’93 has achieved one victory, that of the Australian national road championship in 2018. For the rest, he has always put himself at the service of his teammates. Left without a contract for 2026therefore decided to end his experience in a group.

The decision to leave professional cycling was communicated by the rider himself with a long post on Instagram, published on the last day of the year: “As 2025 comes to an end, so does my time as a professional runner. It’s a sport I’ve given everything to for the last 20 years. Cycling has given me so much – lifelong companions, unforgettable experiences and the chance to see some incredible parts of the world. A big thank you to everyone who was on my side along the way. I couldn’t have done it without you.”

In his message, Alex Edmondson anticipates the intention to remain in the cycling environment, realistically with another role: “I may take a step back from racing, but cycling will always be a great passion of mine. I’m excited to stay involved and hope to give back what cycling has given me to the next generation. One chapter closes, another begins. “Bye guys.”
