After the authorization stop in Europe, the Astrazeneca anti-Covid vaccine will be withdrawn worldwide for commercial reasons. The confirmation came from the Anglo-Swedish company, which spoke of“surplus of updated vaccines available” that target new variants of the virus. A factor that led to an inevitable decline in demand for Vaxzevria, which consequently was no longer produced or distributed. Yesterday the European Medicines Agency issued a warning that the vaccine is no longer authorized for use.
Interviewed byAdnkronos HealthAstrazeneca had highlighted regarding the withdrawal of the Aic in the EU which entered into force on 7 May “not foreseeing future demand” for the anti-Covid vaccine it had been “decided to withdraw the marketing authorization”. Given the situation, similar applications will also be submitted in other countries where Vaxzevria had been approved.
In a statement, Astrazeneca said that according to estimates independent in the first year of use, over 6.5 million human lives were saved and over 3 billion doses were supplied globally. “Our efforts have been recognized by governments around the world and are widely believed to be a key component” which contributed to“end the pandemic”, remarked the pharmaceutical giant. Astrazeneca reiterated its desire to work together with regulators and partners to align on a clear path forward to conclude this chapter.
