The Covid vaccine Of AstraZeneca can cause in rare cases a thrombosis. The news went around the world in a few hours, after the English company admitted, for the first time, that one of the side effects of its vaccine against Covid-19 may be thrombosis syndrome with thrombocytopenia (TTS). It happened in United Kingdom, where one was organised class action, a class action lawsuit against the company precisely because of the consequences that the vaccine caused in some subjects. There were also gods dead. The interview granted to Virgil News from Maximum Ciccozziepidemiologist at the Campus Biomedico University of Rome and one of the leading vaccine experts.

AstraZeneca and cases of thrombosis

As reported TheTelegraphAstraZeneca has produced a document which states that “the vaccine can cause, in very rare cases, a syndrome of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia (Tts). The causes are unknown.”

The company now has to respond to the allegations made by over 50 peoplewho attribute serious consequences to its vaccine, distributed during the pandemic.

The cases of Jamie Scott and Francesca Tuscano

Among the first to file a complaint is the family of a woman, Jamie Scottwho in April 2021 had suffered a brain hemorrhage following a clot, which would have led to permanent damage.

The case of Francesca Tuscano, a 32-year-old Italian who died following administration of the vaccine, is also cited in the dispute.

According to the medical examiner and the hematologist to whom the family then turned, “the patient’s death can be attributed to the side effects of the administration of the Covid-19 vaccine”.

In total, the families of the patients who filed the class action are asking AstraZeneca for compensation for damages approximately 125 million dollars.

The interview with Massimo Ciccozzi

It is the first time that AstraZeneca admits a possible correlation between the vaccine and some possible side effects: is this news?

Camilla Canepa died after the Astrazeneca anti-Covid vaccine at 18 years old due to thrombosis: 5 doctors investigated in Genoa

“Actually we could use the expression of ‘death foretold’. Since its arrival, the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University has proved problematic. We remember that even in Italy there was talk of a possible correlation with a thrombosis – in that case fatal – for an 18-year-old from Liguria, in June 2021″.

What had happened in Italy at the time?

“I remember perfectly that the news came while I was a guest on a TV program and I cited the results of two studies I had just read. One was Israeli, the other was English and they both came to the same conclusion: which was it not only is it possible to proceed with heterologous vaccinations (i.e. switching to another type of vaccine after the first administration), but in some cases it is also advisable”.

Why? To reduce risks or improve protection?

“Studies indicated slightly higher coverage in the case of heterologous. But let’s not forget that the AstraZeneca vaccine was accompanied by some critical issues in Italy too, especially regarding the age group for which it was recommended: initially the Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa) had thought of it and offered it to those under 55. Then , faced with data relating to administration and possible adverse effects, limited it to those over 60. This swing had cast doubt on its efficacy and safety”.

Today, faced with this admission, is there a risk of decreasing confidence in vaccines even further?

“There is a risk, but let’s remember that vaccines, after drinking water, are the ones that have allowed us to save the greatest number of human lives”.

No doubt, therefore, about their usefulness…

“Exact. However, it should also be specified that they should be done when they are needed and to whom they are needed, that is, they should never be administered indiscriminately to everyone: they are useful, but the recipients and the risks must be assessed”.

Can all vaccines lead to the risk of thrombosis or other consequences, or just some?

“In the case of AstraZeneca we remember that Aifa itself had indicated that, for subjects who had had a thrombotic syndrome, it was inadvisable to receive a second dose, or at least it was suggested that a specialist be referred to avoid the risk of thrombocytopenia”.

And for other vaccines: what are the possible contraindications?

“It is difficult and wrong to generalize. Surely There is always some risk of adverse side effects, but this applies to all drugs, including tachipirina. Common sense is needed, just like when taking any medicine, including antibiotics which, we know, cause antibiotic resistance and other problems if abused. Of course, a certain unfounded mistrust has been created towards anti-Covid vaccines.”

Why?

“There are many reasons. For example, towards RNA vaccines initially there was a lot of skepticism, people feared genetic modifications. But we have seen that they have proven effective and useful.”

Returning to the risk of thrombosis, what pathology is it?

“It is a typical occlusion pathology. The formation of a thrombus can be compared to work on a motorway construction site which reduces the number of lanes and therefore leads to narrowing. In the case of thrombi, they are clots that can form anywhere and cause damage to different organs, depending on the case.”

Can you give some examples?

“For example, a thrombosis can lead to heart attack, stroke or pulmonary embolism. But it can also occur in the legs, if it is a venous thrombosis, and can be limited to a sensation of intense heat in one of the limbs or numbness.”

How can thrombosis be prevented, except in cases of particular predisposition?

“Surely the best prevention is an active lifestyle, with regular movement and a balanced diet, which avoid obesity, diabetes and high cholesterol and blood sugar levelsall of which represent possible risk factors.”
