“The data do not support an association between anti-Covid vaccination and sudden cardiac death in young people”. This is the outcome of a new investigation conducted in Oregon and announced by the US CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) in the latest ‘Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report’.
“For the benefit of the usual dunces: yet another study that objectively demonstrates (numbers in hand) how vaccination against Covid has nothing to do with the sudden illnesses of young people. It’s time to resign ourselves to the fact that the Earth is not flat”, tweets Roberto Burioni, professor of Microbiology and Virology at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan, commenting on the results of the investigation on X.
Matteo Bassetti, director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the San Matteo Polyclinic in Genoa, also commented on the same research: “What do we discover with serious and well-conducted studies? That sudden deaths are more frequent among those not vaccinated for Covid-19. And now what will the usual charlatans say?”, asks the doctor.
I study
The study returns to one of the topics that often ends up at the center of controversy by those who express critical positions towards vaccines. In April 2021, the CDC recalls, cases of post-shield injection myocarditis were reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, particularly among young males undergoing immunization. And after Covid vaccination was associated with myocarditis in this group of adolescents and young adults, concerns were raised about possible vaccine-related cardiac deaths in this age group.
To evaluate this aspect, researchers examined the death certificates of Oregon residents ages 16 to 30 who died between June 2021 and December 2022 for cardiac or undetermined causes of death. Records in the Oregon Immunization Information System were then reviewed for identified decedents.
Of the 1,292 deaths identified, Covid-19 was cited as the cause of 30. For a further 101, a cardiac cause of death could not be ruled out. Among these deaths, data from the immunization information system was available for 88. Of the 40 deaths that occurred among people who had received a dose of the mRNA Covid vaccine, 3 occurred within 100 days following vaccination. But 2 were cases of people with underlying chronic conditions, and a single deceased had an undetermined cause of death. These data, the authors conclude, “do not support an association between receipt of the anti-Covid mRNA vaccine and sudden cardiac death among previously healthy young people”.
