It’s National Library Week in the United States, so reader patterns around the world were reviewed. As data from Statista’s Consumer Insights survey shows, in all selected countries women are more likely to say that reading is one of their personal hobbies than men.

The gender gap was widest in Germany, with a difference of 20 percentage points, followed by Spain and Italy (with a difference of 19 percentage points each). In the United States, 44% of women say reading is one of their top hobbies, versus 30% of men.
