An unprecedented decision from Germany. The Higher Regional Court of Bamberg, as Il Messaggero reveals, ordered the pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca to provide information on the side effects of the vaccine Vaxzevria against Covid-19. The verdict follows a lawsuit brought by a woman from Upper Franconia, who reported serious damage to her health after receiving the vaccine.

What happened

The 33-year-old woman, after receiving the vaccine dose, developed intestinal venous thrombosis, a very rare type of blood clot, which put her in a coma and required surgery to remove a portion of her intestine . The case, explains the Roman newspaper, is reported by Apollo News. After her recovery, the woman decided to file a lawsuit against AstraZeneca.

What does the woman ask for?

The 32-year-old’s request for compensation amounts to at least 250 thousand euros for pain and suffering, around 17 thousand euros for lost earnings in the period in which she was unable to work, up to 600 thousand euros for all future problems that will occur in following the past ordeal.

The ruling of the German court

The court required AstraZeneca to disclose all data relating to cases of thrombosis with thrombocytopenic syndrome, TTS, a possible contraindication of anti-COVID-19 vaccines, including Vaxzevria, which AIFA also spoke about. The ruling demands that AstraZeneca provide information on the vaccine’s side effects in the period between the vaccine’s approval at the end of December 2020 and February 19, 2024.
