Chiara Francini nHe doesn’t mince words, neither when he talks about work nor when he talks about himself. In the interview given to Messengerthe actress, writer and producer claims her professional and personal path with a frankness that remains her distinctive trait. Starting from a fact that still causes discussion today: “I earn more”. When asked directly about the economic relationship with her partner, Francini responds without hesitation and when asked if this creates problems in the couple, she closes the discussion with a joke that is also a cultural photograph: “No, absolutely. He’s Swedish, not Italian.”
Francini doesn’t even sugarcoat her judgment on herself. When asked about the defect that she hasn’t yet managed to correct, she responds like this: “I’m a finger in the ass… I’m a bit heavy, I’m an exhausting woman, I never give up“. And he adds immediately afterwards: “But it doesn’t seem like a flaw to me, and then it’s my nature: I’m made like that.” Being like that, he acknowledges, “There is always a price to pay. But we need to be aware of how much is in each of us’s safes.”
Actress, author of six books, producer with her company Nemesis, Francini claims an independent path: “I follow my own path, I go on my own”, she says when asked if she feels she got what she deserved. And to the question about the infamous “circles” of Italian cinema she replies: “I’m only registered in the registry office. I’m a free beater.” Her monologue at Sanremo 2024, she explains, was not a lesson but a necessary act: “It was important to do a monologue on women like that because it opened up a debate on what it means to be a woman today”. Even when he talks about himself he uses a deliberately rough expression: “I still feel a daughter of a little girl”. But he immediately clarifies the meaning: “For me it simply means being awake, attentive and connected.”
To the possibility of entering politics, Francini answers unambiguously: “Never”. And he explains: “For me, being involved in politics is a very important thing and in my case it means exclusively acting and writing with maximum commitment, dealing with important topics such as women’s rights and violence. I express my militancy like this. I could never do anything else.” And in the end, when she is asked how she would define herself today, the answer is as essential as everything else: “Chiara Francini. That’s enough.”
