Hannibal Lecter and Gandalf dance together: the unexpected duet, featuring two actors who have made cinema history, was published on Anthony Hopkins’ Instagram profile. “Today I celebrate my dear friend, Ian McKellen, and his indestructible spirit… I love this man,” reads the caption accompanying the post. Which culminates with a thank you to colleague Salma Hayek, suggesting that it was the diva who shot the clip. Fans greatly appreciated the skit, with a flood of heartfelt comments and thanks for the two living monuments of cinema. And among them there is also a colleague, Perdro Alonso O’Choro, the “Berlin” of the “House of Cards” who in turn receives Hopkins’ compliments: “Thank you, I love your work.” Next up is Kylie Monogue, who comments with two glowing hearts.

A long-standing friendship

The two actors met on the set of The Dresser, adaptation of the play of the same name. The two, as told by McKellen in the past, were also part of Laurence Olivier’s company when the latter directed the National Theater in London, but they had no opportunity to become friends in that period. McKellen, as he recalls The Mirror, is recovering from a bad accident that occurred while playing John Falstaff in a production of Player Kings at the Noel Coward Theatre. In fact, in a fight scene, the 85-year-old actor lost his balance and fell from the stage. Now a few days have passed since the accident: the actor is on the mend. It’s unclear whether Hopkins’ video was shot before or after the incident, but McKellen appears in great shape in it.
