The honors are announced on New Year’s Eve but will be presented – by the King or Prince William or Princess Anne – over the next few months. As it was for the last knight: David Robert Joseph Beckham, former captain of the English football team from 2000 to 2006, Sir David Beckham, and wife is Lady Victoria Beckham, after his investiture in Windsor last November.
A title that is a goal pursued for a lifetime and deserved “for service to the country in the sports and philanthropy sectors”, as the motivation explains. “For a child from East London, born in Leytonstone, to receive the investiture from His Majesty the King is truly a unique moment, the one in which I felt most proud,” said Sir David after kneeling before the king who placed the sword on his shoulder, in the gesture of investiture.
