Chivu over Inzaghi: all the differences in management

The Pole’s words are part of a broader picture, also linked to what the winger said months ago

Piotr Zielinski had been stringing the bow for several months. Before shooting the arrow he took some time and then took aim. On the banner, down there at the end, there was Inzaghi’s face: “Last year I was in the third row, the coach had his starting players, but Chivu involves everyone a bit.”

something has changed

The Pole, returning from a shady season full of injuries, has returned to expressing his football also thanks to the trust of the new coach. One who, since taking over the reins of Inter, has erased most of the old Inzaghian habits. Introduction: Simone won a scudetto for the Nerazzurri, took Inter to the Champions League final twice and lifted five cups, while Cristian has yet to lift his first trophy. But something has changed.

management

The first note is on Zielinski. Last year the former Napoli player was out for 141 days and missed around ten games. Now he already has two goals and two assists in twenty appearances. Aside from the personal dig he launched after Atalanta, his words fall within a broader framework linked to the involvement of all of Inter in ownership. With Chivu the rotations are frequent: the so-called “second lines” – see Bonny, Pio, Luis Henrique, Diouf, Carlos Augusto – have had much more space. The coach alternated the starters with the “reserves”, even if he doesn’t like this term. The result is that Inter has scored 13 different goalscorers in Serie A. More than anyone else. What Zielinski said, however, is also linked to Dimarco’s words from a few months ago, before Inter-Slavia Prague: “Last year I was always replaced around the 60th minute, it’s clear that today it has more impact”. In the season, out of 18 games as a starter, he was only substituted once in the 66th minute.

form and yellows

Another difference compared to Inzaghi is linked to the formation: against Atalanta, as well as against Pisa, Inter defended with a 5-4-1 with a very low block and Diouf on the right wing, ahead of Luis Henrique. With Inzaghi, at times, Inter defended with four – see against Napoli against Maradona last year, in the final minutes -, but the structure has always been the same. Chivu is continuing with the 3-5-2, but it is also true if Lookman, chased for most of the summer, had arrived, the Nerazzurri coach would have changed the formation by moving to a 3-4-2-1. The last note is on warnings, neo Inzaghiano: anyone who has received a yellow card is no longer replaced frequently.
