The press conference to present “The Year to Come” was held inside the Monumental Complex of San Giovanni in Catanzaro, a historic Rai Uno television event dedicated to New Year’s Eve and now in its 23rd edition.

During the conference, the Mayor of Catanzaro Nicola Fiorita, together with Antonietta Santacroce Superintendent of the Politeama Theater of Catanzaro and the maestro Michele Affidato presented Marco Liorni with the “Silver Quarryer”, a sculpture inspired by one of the oldest identity symbols of the city of Catanzaro.

A tribute to the host who, for the second consecutive year, will accompany the Rai 1 audience towards the new year. The Quarryman is a figure deeply linked to the historical memory of the city, a work that pays homage to the industrious soul and which embodies the strength, work and identity of the Catanzaro population.

The Cavatore becomes a metaphor for a hard-working and resilient community, capable of transforming work into culture and shared identity. The press conference was attended by the host Marco Liorni, the President of the Calabria Region Roberto Occhiuto, the President of the Calabria Film Commission Anton Giulio Grande, the Mayor of Catanzaro Nicola Fiorita, but also the Director of Prime Time Entertainment Rai Williams Di Liberatore and the CEO of Rai Com Sergio Santo.

For the third consecutive year, after Crotone and Reggio Calabria, Rai New Year’s Eve returns to Calabria, confirming the region as the protagonist of one of the most followed television events on the national scene.

After saying goodbye to 2024 in Crotone and 2025 in Reggio Calabria, “The Year to Come” makes a stop this year in Catanzaro, the regional capital. The chosen location is the “Stefano Pugliese” seafront of Catanzaro Lido, in the seaside district of the city, with the Blue Flag beach and the Giovino Dunes Nature Reserve acting as an evocative backdrop to the great event.

With the delivery of the Silver Quarryer, Michele and Antonio Affidato ideally sign their artistic presence in all three Rai New Years hosted in Calabria. A path that has seen them create and deliver symbolic works linked to the territories: the Golden Column to Amadeus in 2024 in Crotone and the Riace Bronzes to Marco Liorni last year in Reggio Calabria.

Three cities, three symbols, three works that tell the profound identity of Calabria through art. The appointment is for Wednesday 31 December, when “The Year to Come” will be broadcast on Rai Uno, Rai Radio Uno, RaiPlay and Rai Italia, once again bringing Calabria into the homes of millions of viewers.
