“In Italy those who are successful are massacred.” Flavio Briatore This is how he comments on his friend’s arrest Giovanni Toti. The entrepreneur uses words of esteem to describe the president of Liguria region under house arrest. “I know Giovanni, he has been a friend of mine for about twenty years: he is a gentleman. A governor who has worked very well in Liguria has created job opportunities”. This is the crux of the matter according to Briatore, a successful entrepreneur who knows justice and bad justice well. “I believe it is a electoral arrest. The investigating judge has had this case in hand for five months. Because today on the eve of European elections?”, Briatore gets to the point adding “I don’t know how he’ll get out of this”. Then he explains: “If a politician does what he does by profession, if he comes massacred from justice he may never recover. Even if he is later acquitted as happens most of the time, he has his life and his career ruined forever“, he explains in an interview with The newspaper.
Briatore talks about his experience as an entrepreneur. “I was put in great difficulty by judicial persecution that overwhelmed me. You see, when you are attacked, indicted, convicted, all of them the banks call you and they ask you to remove the money in 48 hours. Do you understand what it means for someone who does business and lives from business? If you’re not strong, they’ll ruin you.” “I honestly don’t know how Giovanni can recover from such a blow”, adds the entrepreneur. “I hope he can be strong and above all that this bad affair will be resolved quickly and he can return to carrying out his work as Governor”.

Talking with the newspaperBriatore reflects on the fact that “l‘Italy is a strange country“. “When you’re successful,” he points out, “you always think you got it by stealing. We still can’t understand that behind success there is work and risk. If you do well at what you do they will massacre you, they want to see you finished. They don’t care if it creates jobs. The important thing is to make you fail or to be prosecuted by some magistrate”. This is the case of his friend Toti. “Giovanni worked day and night in the Region”, Briatore is keen to underline. “Liguria was almost abandoned before him, now it is an extraordinary and efficient reality that is there for all to see. Let’s not forget how many jobs created. But unfortunately in Italy it is always like this.”
