For the first time since a Kate Middleton the diagnosis of cancer has been communicated, Prince William he will spend two days away from home – today and tomorrow – and tonight he will spend the night away from his family. In recent months the agenda of the prince’s official commitments had been modified to be adapted to family needs, to allow him to support his wife for the duration of the treatment and be close to his children.
Now the prince will go to Cornwall and – underlines the Daily Mail – having accepted the idea of spending a night away from home is the best indicator of the fact that the princess may be on the road to recovery.
The Official updates on the Princess’ health have been scarce since he announced in March that he was being treated for cancer. At the time, she asked the public for “some time, space and privacy” to complete her course of chemotherapy. Since then Kate has stayed out of the spotlight, while Prince William has returned to work with an official schedule adapted to the situation. William has spoken about Kate several times during his latest public engagements, assuring that he is “taking care” of the Princess.
In Cornwall, William will visit the Nansledan site where the Duchy of Cornwall’s first innovative housing scheme will be built to help solve homelessness. Tomorrow he will make his first official visit to the Isles of Scilly since becoming Duke of Cornwall in September 2022. During his time in St. Mary’s, William will meet with local business representatives on the harbor front and visit St. Mary’s Medical Centre.
It is not yet known when the Princess will return to carry out her public commitments alongside her husband. The Telegraph recently quoted well-informed sources as saying that the King’s decision to return to official duties must have eased the pressure on Kate. The Princess normally attends a number of events in the summer months, including Wimbledon, Royal Ascot and Trooping the Colour. Kensington Palace said Kate will return to official duties when doctors give her the all-clear. “You may be keen to participate in events if and when you feel able to do so,” a spokesperson stressed, but “any first public events will not necessarily mark a return to a regular program of public activities.”
