King Charles has one condition to meet Harry

Exactly one year after the coronation it’s time to take stock King Charles. Custodian of an ancient tradition, but also of a challenging maternal legacy to pass on, the sovereign is animated by the same desire as Elizabeth to reunite the royal family under one roof and her son Harry’s next trip to London could be a precious opportunity to resolve misunderstandings and finally put an end to the painful consequences of Megxit. Not that Carlo, 75 years old last November, really believes in a definitive return to the Sussexes’ United Kingdom, but he certainly would like to see Prince Harry again.

King Charles would like to see Harry.

The last one father-son meeting dates back to the beginning of the year when, after the unexpected diagnosis of cancer, the second-born son boarded the first flight to England to personally ascertain Carlo’s clinical condition, a sign that his attachment to his father is great and that perhaps the true obstacle to a reconciliation with the family is represented by his brother William. The appointment at Clarence House, however, had lasted less than an hour, before Charles and Camilla’s sudden departure for Sandringham, and Harry’s equally rapid return to the States a day later.

As we often hear, the best medicine is time and perhaps now enough has passed to try reconstruct the relationship between the king and his “escort”. A few days ago the sovereign returned to public life with a touching visit to the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Center, a center for the treatment of tumors, as he prepares for the grandiose state visit in June of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan. Other possible royal engagements, still subject to medical advice, are Royal Ascot, the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Trooping the Color parade, as well as the traditional garden parties at Buckingham Palace.

Harry will be in London for the 10-year anniversary of the Invictus Games.

But Carlo’s agenda could also include a meeting with his son, who will be at St. Paul’s Cathedral tomorrow 8 May to celebrate ten years since the foundation of the Invictus Games. According to royal experts, none of the Windsors will be present – a sign of the prince’s obvious isolation – but Carlo “would like to see his son”. The condition for this to happen is that you stay in one of the royal residences for reasons of practicality and confidentiality. “The King has business at Buckingham Palace, including his weekly session with the Prime Minister, and would like to see his son” reads the Mirror. “If there was a spare bed, it would allow him to see his father in private. That way Harry would be less likely to use it as a PR opportunity.” Furthermore, this would allow the prince to enjoy the “protection he so desires”.

Naturally, it will be up to the prince to decide whether to opt for a hotel, as happened last September when he was formally denied a room at Buckingham Palace for reasons of short notice, or whether to ask to reside at court. The desired father-son meeting could depend on this, now that Frogmore Cottage – given as a wedding gift by Elisabetta in 2018 – is no longer available Sussex.
