Eco-friendly terracotta jars lowered onto the seabed of Talamone to protect the octopuses from trawling by providing them with shelter: it is the Casa dei Octopi, born yesterday with the installation of the artefacts which had an exceptional godfather in the actor Giovanni Storti of trio Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo.

The idea comes from the Casa dei Pesci association, and aims to safeguard the existing specimens of Octopus vulgaris – in increasingly smaller numbers – but also to encourage their reproduction in an environment suited to the species. The project has the scientific support of the University of Siena, with the faculty of Biological Sciences.

Giovanni Storti has a green soul and has long been at the forefront of campaigns to protect the environment and nature, so much so that he was also the protagonist in one of the Eco Meetings promoted by Ecofor in Pontedera in the cycle of events of this season. So he accepted the proposal of the House of Pisces by attending the lowering of the jars.

That match is now a pilot phase of the octopus protection program, with the positioning of 25-30 centimeter jars that will act as an artificial refuge for the animals. The intent is to implement marine refuges for the species, perhaps also including works of art suitable for the purpose.
