For our cover we photographed for the first time Richard Gere together with his wife, the Spanish Alejandra Gere, formerly Alejandra Silva. with whom he had two children and with whom he intends to move to Madrid next autumn. «When we started dating», said the actor, «and she came to visit me in the countryside, near New York, at a certain point I told her that I would sit and meditate, as I did every day, but that she could go down to the lake with me and sit and think or read or whatever she liked; and when I finished my exercise, she said to me: “Ok, can you tell me what you were doing?”. And I realized that no one had ever asked me this before. She really wanted to know, so I started explaining my routine and some of the things that, over all these years, I’ve been able to work with my mind in an attempt to change. She quickly realized that Buddhism was something that touched her deeply too.”
Theirs is a story of devoted love. After his first two marriages to model Cindy Crawford and actress Carey Lowell, mother of his son Homer, and her marriage to the father of her son Albert, the couple had two sons, Alexander, 5, and James, 4. Without Alejandra, with whom he shares activism and interests, the last ten years of life cannot be understood ( private and professional) by Gere. When the two speak, they usually do so by mentioning the other’s name. The spark struck during a meeting in Italy, in Positano, in 2014. The two have lived in America so far, but are about to move to Madrid: «For me, going to Madrid will be a great adventure because I have never lived full time outside of America. And I think it will be for my children too”, added the actor. “It will be wonderful for Alejandra to be closer to her family. She was very generous in giving me six years of life in my world, so I think it’s only fair that I give her at least six more in hers. In any case, I love Spain and I think the lifestyle, like the Italian one, is fantastic. So I can’t wait.”
