Fight against crime: 100 tax evaders found in total

From the fight against economic crime to irregular work, from the fight against drug trafficking to investigative activities against clans. The new budget of the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Bergamo – referring to the period from 1 January 2023 to 31 May 2024 – shows the numbers of a broad action. Starting from current issues: the Bergamo yellow flames have discovered 1,611 illegal or irregular workers, while they have been identified 100 total tax evaders (entrepreneurs or self-employed workers completely unknown to the tax authorities, many of whom are active on e-commerce platforms).

The data will be presented on Wednesday 26 June, from 6pm, during the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Guardia di Finanza with the traditional military ceremony organized at the Ten. Col. Gaetano Donini barracks in via dello Statuto 22, headquarters of the Provincial Command of Bergamo.

Great attention was also paid to protection of public spending and control of interventions linked to the Pnrr, with 201 checks; there were 194 interventions on the subject of citizenship income and new inclusion and support measures for training and work. Furthermore, as part of the fight against corruption, the GdF carried out 3 arrests, 7 complaints and seizures for over 2.1 million euros. The fight against money laundering and self-laundering was also significant, with 16 interventions which led to the reporting of 27 people and the reconstruction of illicit operations for 113.4 million euros, while 2,641 investigations were carried out – following requests from the Prefectures – linked to the release of anti-mafia documentation.

They were 438 people reported for tax crimes (46 arrests), with seizures of assets – profits from tax evasion and tax fraud – amounting to 18.5 million euros. Anti-drug chapter: the Bergamo yellow flames seized – again between January 2023 and May 2024 – approximately 140 kg of narcotic substances, including 42 kg of cocaine and 96 of hashish. In all, in 2023 and in the first five months of 2024, the provincial command carried out 7,541 inspections and 643 investigations.
