Technical data sheet and first images of the #5, the Smart plus

For a few years now, Smart has abandoned the path of tiny city cars perfect for urban traffic in favor of that of powerful and spacious SUVs. A complete change of pace which, moving from models #1 and #3, goes up to #5, the most spacious and powerful car Smart has ever built. The technical data sheet and first images of the car have appeared online, with the design echoing what has already been seen with the recent Concept #5.

The information comes from the approval form sent by Smart to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information (MIIT). The document, later leaked online, contains all the car’s data, starting from the dimensions.

It will be 4.7 m long, as long as Tesla’s Model Y

Smart #5 will have a length of 4.7 m, a width of 1.92 m and a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. This is the largest and most spacious Smart ever built, designed to offer large interior spaces. Furthermore, they are very similar in size to those of the Tesla Model Y, and therefore take Smart into a segment never explored before.

As regards the technical data sheet, Smart #5 is built on a platform with 800 V architecture. Four different engines are available, two with rear-wheel drive (250 and 267 kW) and two with all-wheel drive, with double motor and power total of 358 and 416 kW.

The maximum speed is limited to 200 km/h for single-engine versions and 210 km/h for dual-engine versions. Also in this case we are faced with something new, given that no Smart, not even in the Brabus version, has ever been able to boast similar numbers.

Here is Concept #5. The most spacious car ever designed by smart is now also aimed at off-road

The 100 kWh battery provides a range of 700 km in the Chinese CLTC cycle. Remember that the Chinese test is less severe than the European one, so it is reasonable to expect that the autonomy in the WLTP cycle will be lower.

The 100 kWh battery will definitely be used for the dual-motor version, but we don’t know if a smaller version is planned for the single-motor versions.

The use of an 800 V architecture translates into very fast charging: according to the data sent to MIIT, 15 minutes are enough to fully charge the battery, thanks also to support for fast charging up to 400 kW.

The release scheduled for the last quarter of 2024, in Europe it should cost more than 40,000 euros

No date of arrival on the market is indicated in the approval form, but according to rumors collected by the CarNewsChina portal, there could be news in this sense as early as the last quarter of the current year. Four colors available.

Smart, there is also a coupé sedan in the plans. Ready in 2027, it will be built on an 800 V platform

No information even on the price, it being understood that the Chinese prices do not find any correspondence with the European ones. Taking into account that both #1 and #3 cost around 38,000 euros on the Italian market, it is easy to imagine that #5 will quickly surpass 40,000 euros.
