Incentives, promotional campaigns, draconian measures. The West is trying in every way to convince citizens to buy the electric cars in the name of green religion. A Taliban, fundamentalist ideology, destined to clash with reality. We know the numbers: the market is at a standstill, indeed sales of vehicles on tap are decreasing. The Italian numbers are disastrous, but the other main European countries are not doing any better either. The news is now the order of the day, between blocked investments and revisited strategies to avoid losing more money. Just a few weeks ago there was a lot of talk about the very high number of Chinese electric cars paralyzed in the car parks of the main ports of Northern Europe. But that’s not all, with all due respect to the green ultras.

The problem does not only concern ports, but also other structures. In Germany, the experts at the Chemnitz Automotive Institute have disclosed an alarming figure to say the least: at least 100 thousand electric cars are abandoned in spaces near factories and dealerships. And be careful, there is a detail that should not go unnoticed. This critical issue is not exclusively linked to the import of Chinese BEVs. Experts have no doubts, part of the responsibility must be given to German manufacturers: 2023 ended with a record number of unsold cars. The reason? The cutting incentives by the government. A move that led to a sharp slowdown in demand, despite the ambitious plans.

THE numbers reported by Quattroruote do not leave much room for interpretation: as regards exports, in 2023 Germany shipped 786 thousand electric vehicles to foreign markets, equal to 36 billion euros. In a nutshell, one in four new cars sold abroad from Berlin was a BEV. But this is not good news, especially if the spotlight is turned on the repercussions of this trend. The port of Bremerhaven is congested with parked BEVs, while in Grunheide there are thousands of Teslas at a former military airport. The manufacturers’ decision to cut production capacity is natural and, to say the least, understandable, thanks to the impressive number of petrol and diesel cars registered.

L’clogging it is often attributable to the invasion of Chinese electric companies, now “owners” of the main European ports. The piers are in fact used as real luxury car parks, with cars on standby for up to a year, a year and a half. The market is slow and the situation does not seem destined to improve, at least in the short term. But the shortage of hauliers is also having an impact, a critical issue whose main repercussion is the delay in time. In the absence of a decisive and peremptory intervention, the situation will hardly be resolved, also because there are those who – out of interest or stupidity – do not seem willing to reverse the trend. And it’s always the same people who pay.
